About the Role

THE CITY OF HEYBURN IS SEEKING COMMUNITY ENGAGED POLICE OFFICERS TO JOIN OUR TEAM

WHY HEYBURN?

Imagine a community with small town diners, mom and pop stores, locally owned businesses, friendly people, and green agricultural fields with nearby mountains, as far as the eyes can see. Have you ever dreamed of working in law enforcement in a community that still appreciates and supports its police officers that desire law and order while embracing Constitutional freedoms? Does serving a strong and growing municipality, rich in history, with old fashion Western culture and values, appeal to you? If you have answered yes to the above, then look no further than Heyburn, Idaho!

Nestled along the Snake River and Interstate 84, the City of Heyburn is home to more than 3,000 citizens within it’s incorporated city limits.  Within a few miles lies neighboring cities with big box stores, but Heyburn has kept its quiet residential charm.  As a growing community in the Mini-Cassia area, there is an elementary school within the city limits and two community hospitals within 15 minutes. Heyburn is close to several recreation type activities including motocross, golf, ATV riding, hiking, fishing, hunting, boating, horse events, camping and many more. With two state highways running through town, many enjoy being able to travel to Boise or Salt Lake for the “big city” experience but return home to Heyburn and Minidoka County.

Heyburn is a growing police department that is under new leadership focused on innovation and developing a working partnership with our community, which we strive to continually improve.  The Heyburn Police Department is currently allotted 8 commissioned police officers who provide 24-hour coverage to our community.

LATERAL OFFICERS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED!

Are you tired of running call-to-call and want the opportunity to get to know your community?  Are you a career law enforcement officer looking for a fresh start outside of the large metropolitan areas? Are you interested in a department with big-city challenges while still having the small-town community policing feel? If you have answered yes to the above, then look no further than Heyburn!

About the Agency

HEYBURN'S HIRING PROCESS

After submitting an application, the testing process will be as follows:

  • Physical Agility Test:

Set by the state of Idaho, preparation for the test can be found here: Idaho Physical Readiness Test

  • Written Test:

This is a test that measures an applicant’s basic reading, writing, math and problem solving skills. The test takes approximately three hours to complete. A photo ID may be required when checking in for the written test.

  • Oral Board Interview:

Applicants will get to meet with members of the police department in an interview setting.  This is the chance for the applicant to talk about their personal experiences and for the panel to see how the applicant responds to various questions and scenarios. Note: best practice is to dress to impress!

  • Background Investigation:

After the interview, applicants will meet with a background investigator and go over a personal history statement.  The background investigator will evaluate the applicant's character via interviews and an investigation to make sure the applicant is in compliance with ethical standards set by the City of Heyburn and IDAPA. The applicant's prior personal conduct, driving record, credit history, any previous drug use, and any criminal convictions are reviewed and considered. Those standards can be found here:  https://adminrules.idaho.gov/rules/current/11/111101.pdf

  • Polygraph:

In conjunction with the background investigation applicants will attend a polygraph examination.  The polygraph will evaluate the applicant's honesty.  We acknowledge everyone is human and may have done things in their past, which are not proud moments.  However, it's the ability to be honest and not have repeated errors in judgment that are accounted for.

  • Conditional Stage:

If an applicant has passed the above stages, they are given a conditional offer of employment which will then have a psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, and pre-employment drug testing.

LATERAL APPLICANTS ARE EXEMPT FROM THE PHYSICAL AGILITY AND WRITTEN TESTS.
